Melody is an experienced professional violinist and music teacher based in Hamilton.
In addition to providing private violin tuition, she currently tutors at Hamilton Community Centre of Music and Sistema Waikato. She enjoys playing in Opus Orchestra, Stella Strings Duo and String Quartet and has played previously with Auckland Philharmonia, Vector Wellington Orchestra and in Germany with the Detmolder Kammerorchester and Ensemble Vinorosso.
In 2001 Melody completed her BMus(Hons) degree at Victoria University of Wellington and went on to study the violin in Detmold, Germany. She also completed a GradDipTchg (secondary) at Waikato University.
With two children of her own and plenty of teaching training and experience, she has a good understanding of children’s needs and development when it comes to learning an instrument.
I teach students of all ages from age 3 and up, beginner to advanced level, and aim to foster a love of music and the violin.
Whether a new student wants to gain a solid grounding as a beginner, play fun fiddle tunes or work towards NCEA or Trinity/ABRSM exams and performances, I provide students the opportunity to learn, experiment and develop musically.
I find the Suzuki method a successful method of learning for younger beginners especially in order to develop a great set up and solid technique before introducing music reading. Beginners may also learn using traditional popular violin methods.
As a qualified secondary school music teacher I can offer instrumental as well as general tuition for NCEA music.
