Bio
From competition stage to adjudicator’s table, Daniel has spent a lifetime immersed in piano — and channels that experience into results: national Outstanding Scholars, Trinity College distinctions, and diplomas earned by students still in their early teens.
Daniel’s relationship with the piano began in his early teens, competing at the Tauranga Piano Competitions through the late 1980s and early 90s — where his talent earned him numerous prizes, including the prestigious Institute of Registered Music Teachers Scholarship. In 2018, he returned to those same competitions not as a competitor, but as the adjudicator: a full-circle moment that captures a career built entirely around music.
Today, Daniel is an Associate Member of the Institute of Registered Music Teachers NZ, teaching NCEA Music Levels 1–3, coaching performance students, and supervising scholarship candidates at secondary school level. The results speak for themselves: his students have been named national Outstanding Scholars — ranking among the top 5 musicians in New Zealand — in both 2016 and 2021. One Year 10 student earned a Distinction in Grade 8 piano (Trinity College, Digital Examination) with a mark of 99; another completed a full ATCL Diploma while still in Year 10.
Beyond individual lessons, Daniel coaches chamber ensembles at every level and works as an accomplished accompanist for NCEA, scholarship, and school-production performers alike — lending his playing to productions including Guys and Dolls, Seussical the Musical, The Little Mermaid, and The Scarlet Pimpernel.
His own musical foundation runs deep: three performance diplomas from Trinity College (LTCL, ATCL, and Performance Certificate), all completed during high school, followed by a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Auckland.
For students looking for a teacher who pairs genuine performance pedigree with a proven record of results, Daniel offers both.
