Bio

Kia Ora! My name is Lily and I have recently returned from three years of touring internationally playing saxophone and singing backing vocals with Grammy nominated Australian band ‘The Teskey Brothers’. While touring I have performed at festivals such as Glastonbury, Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, and opened for artists such as Bruce Springsteen and Hozier. I completed my Bachelor of Music with Honours from Victoria University, majoring in Jazz Performance on the saxophone and studying classical voice as my second instrument. I began learning saxophone when I was 11 and began my training in classical voice when I was 14. I have been teaching music since 2017, and have taught at St Patrick’s College, St Oran’s College, the Upper Hutt Music Centre and the Wellington Music Centre, as well as privately.

While studying I gained the prestigious Tenor One chair in the New Zealand School of Music Big Band One and performed alongside artists such as Ambrose Akinmusire, Dave Weckl, James Carter and Adam Schroeder. I gig regularly playing a variety of music from Jazz to Pop, Classical, RnB and Rock. I have been a member of Wellington bands Revulva, Dawn Diver, Odessa and Elliot Dawson. I have sung in ‘Opera In A Days Bay Garden’, in a production of ‘Eugene Onegin’ by Tchaikovsky and in Handel’s ‘Theodora’. I have thoroughly enjoyed my career in music thus far and am excited to share my knowledge with others!

Teaching Info

First and foremost my goal is to establish a solid relationship with students in order to create a comfortable learning environment. I believe it is important to cultivate student’s interests in lessons and create a continual dialogue with students about what their musical goals are. In lessons I teach technical skills, improvisation, musicality, musicianship, performance skills and theory. My experience playing and singing a wide range of music has given me the skills to be able to teach many different styles, and I am committed to giving my students a positive learning experience.
