Bio
Elly Rydge – Piano & Vocal Coach
Elly Rydge is a Christchurch-based performer and music educator with over 15 years of experience in the New Zealand music scene. A graduate of Ara Institute of Canterbury’s Bachelor of Music Arts programme, Elly is an active performer, regularly gigging with her band Black & Gold at festivals, weddings, and corporate functions.
Now teaching from Ara Arts, Elly offers a limited number of private lessons, specialising in coaching intermediate to advanced singers and pianists. Her teaching is best suited to students aiming to grow their skills with a clear purpose—whether that’s preparing for NCEA performance assessments, Trinity exams, audition material, or upcoming live performances.
Elly’s approach is goal-oriented and collaborative. At the start of each term, she works with students to set clear, achievable targets—whether it’s refining technique, developing a strong performance set, or building a portfolio of original compositions. Her lessons provide structure, challenge, and plenty of encouragement.
