Bio

I have been a cellist since the age of 9. I was the cellist in the Bear Trio which won the inaugural NZ Chamber music competition in 1965.

I was taught by Wilfred Simenauer in Wellington, Zdenek Konicek of the Prague String Quartet in Christchurch, James Whitehead in Adelaide and Antony Pini in London.

Co-principal Melbourne Symphony Orchestra 1970. Member of Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London 1972. Member of London Philharmonic Orchestra 1974. Co-Principal cellist of London Philharmonic Orchestra 1978. First call recitative player for all Glyndebourne Baroque opera from 1974. Freelance cellist for Academy of St Martin’s in the Field, London Sinfonietta, English Chamber Orchestra as well as all the major London orchestras. Founder member of Syrinx Chamber Ensemble and guest cellist with Melos Ensemble. Professor of Cello Conservatorio Regional do Algarve in Portugal from 1989. Private tutor in UK from 1997.

I am an extremely experienced cellist and am therefore able to teach any aspect of classical cello.

 


Teaching Info

A relaxed approach with the use of cello duets as a teaching aid. I am able to assist with all aspects of technique.
