A recipient of the Cecily Macoll High Achiever Award through the Dame Malvina Major Foundation, she used the award to attend the prestigious Michigan University Flute Institute, studying under world-renowned flutist Amy Porter in 2023.

Originally from Christchurch, she has consistently demonstrated musical leadership as Principal Flute of the Christchurch Youth Orchestra and the Burnside High School Orchestra (Specialist Music Programme). Under her leadership, her ensembles earned top national honours, including Platinum at the MEFA Festival and Gold at the Aurora and Christchurch Wind Festivals, where her section was also named Best Flute Section.

In 2024, she was awarded a full scholarship to the Pettman National Junior Academy of Music. Other recent highlights include competing in the National Concerto Competition, receiving a Highly Commended Award at the National NZCT Chamber Music Competition, and winning first place at the 2024 Bach International Music Competition in Poland with her chamber trio. She has toured with acclaimed New Zealand artist Rakuto Kurano, and participated in masterclasses with leading flutists such as Emily Beynon and Joshua Batty.

Also an emerging conductor and composer, Anastasia was selected for the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra’s Conducting Fellowship and has worked with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra Virtuosi Chamber Ensemble and the Aspirations Conducting Programme. Her compositions have received awards from SOUNZ, NZCF, and Burnside High School, where she was honoured with the Principal’s Cup for Composition.

Teaching Info

Because of her modern, integrated teaching style and inclusive demeanour, Anastasia has been described as a teacher who naturally inspires students through the rapid progress her advice has on how her students perform.

From a beginner level, students should expect to be thoroughly taught the basics of breathing, making sound, and music theory, whilst moving through repertoire quickly and in a fun way. A focus will be on technique, articulation, tone, breath control, dynamics, tuning, and strengthening coordination.

Intermediate to Advanced students will have music taken to more advanced concepts including depth of sound, vibrato, reducing tension, and tone colour.

All students will gain a solid foundation in which musical ideas and intentions can be expressed confidently! Anastasia too ensures that all students remain enthusiastic about music, and have sufficient knowledge of performance psychology to achieve set ambitions.
