Bio
With over 30 years of teaching experience, Dave Coleclough brings a wealth of knowledge and practical expertise to his private music studio. A former high school itinerant teacher, Dave now focuses on guiding students of all ages in guitar (acoustic and electric), bass, and music theory.
A Bachelor of Music with Honours from Otago University, Dave has also enjoyed a vibrant performing career. He has toured and recorded with the Australian Jan Preston Trio, played festivals with Valley Bluegrass, and performed across genres including country, blues, and pop. His experience extends to lead guitar and acoustic fingerpicking in all styles.
Dave’s teaching philosophy is student-centered: he meets learners where they are, helping them recognise their own learning style, and encourages them to choose songs they love. He uses a steady, scaffolded approach—building skills one step at a time—while keeping lessons engaging, practical, and inspiring.
Whether you’re starting out or looking to refine your technique, Dave combines professional insight with patient, approachable instruction to help every student achieve their musical goals.
