Bio

I’m a lifelong musician who studied jazz sax at university, and have had a varied career combining gigging and teaching on several instruments since graduation. I’m also a lifelong learner – I still practice regularly and am always exploring new ways to keep my teaching fresh and engaging. Very recently (April) left everything in England to come to beautiful Christchurch.

I’m excited to be settling here for the long term and keen to contribute to the local music community as both a performer and a teacher.

Teaching Info

Learn Piano, Jazz, Improvisation & More

I’m an experienced teacher offering one-to-one music lessons for beginners through to advanced players of all ages. I specialise in jazz, improvisation, and contemporary music, but I also love classical music and especially enjoy helping beginners develop a lifelong love of playing.

What I Offer:

Piano Lessons

  • For beginners: learn the basics in a fun and engaging way, develop confidence and begin to learn how to play by ear and feel.
  • For intermediate players: stay motivated, build your skills, and start to explore your own unique musical path.
  • For advanced students: dive deeper into jazz/ improvisation/ contemporary music/ songwriting/ composition, or work towards Grade 8.
  • Support with practice structure and developing musical independence, so eventually you won’t need a teacher any more!

Saxophone

  • Advanced players only (contemporary and jazz focus – no beginner/intermediate lessons, as I don’t currently have a sax on hand)

Bass Guitar

  • Beginner and intermediate lessons using a play-by-ear approach
  • I take a non-traditional approach to bass lessons, we’ll learn through rhythm, instinct, and understanding intervals in a hands-on way.

A Holistic Musical Approach

It’s not just about technique and sight-reading – we’ll also explore creativity, listening skills, and the joy of making music. How Lessons Work:

Free Trial Lesson
Our first meeting is a free, no-obligation trial. We’ll chat about your goals and how to tailor lessons to suit your interests and needs.

Mobile Lessons in Christchurch
I travel to you! I teach across Christchurch – get in touch if you’re based nearby but slightly outside the city.

Some Flexibility, Regular Lessons Preferred
Students who can commit to a regular weekly time will be prioritised due to scheduling needs. Occasional group lessons may be arranged if beneficial.

Finding the Right Fit
Choosing a teacher is personal – I always encourage prospective students to explore their options. There’s no one right way to learn, and it’s important to find a teaching style that feels right.
