Bio
I am a versatile musician and composer based in Dunedin, New Zealand, completing my Mus.B. (Hons) in Piano Performance and Composition in 2024. I’m an experienced performer as a soloist, accompanist, and chamber/orchestral musician, and have many years of music teaching experience behind me.
On piano, studying under Professor Terence Dennis, I have featured twice as a soloist with the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra, in many concerts around the city and wider Otago region, and in masterclasses and rehearsals with figures such as James Judd, Anna Leese, and Gabriela Montero (Venezuela).
On viola, which also I studied at university, I not only play in the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra, but am also a player representative on the DSO Board. I have also played three times in the NZSO National Youth Orchestra since 2020.
I currently teach recorder at Saturday Morning Music Classes (SMMC) and achieved an ATCL, self-taught. I have also performed as a soloist in local concerts and competitions (sometimes my own compositions!).
I am a highly experienced tutor of music theory of all levels – from beginner (at SMMC for many years) right through to tertiary level, where I was the official tutor for two university papers. I also have experience musical directing and working with singers, instrumentalists, and choirs. I love meeting new people and helping them to be the best musicians they can be!
Teaching Info
I offer lessons for children (ages 7 and up) and adults alike, at all levels from beginner to advanced. Every lesson is individually tailored to what the student wants to achieve – whether that be learning for enjoyment, working towards music exams, or just a desire to develop instrumental skills. In any case, my aim is to give every student the freedom to explore and discover the world of music in a friendly, welcoming environment.
Right from the beginning, students will develop their instrumental technique, movement patterns, and musicianship, as well as music theory and sight-reading skills.
I offer weekly lessons at my private studio at home, though I also teach online. Please note that students should have an instrument of their own that they can practice on at home. Lesson times available weekday afternoons and evenings (except Wednesdays), and on Sundays.
I also happily teach composition and music theory as stand-alone areas, and have done so for many years.
