Bio

Cleo Aldridge is a British violinist, violist, composer, and educator based in Wellington, New Zealand. She serves as Head of Performing Arts at a leading independent school, where she teaches music, dance, and drama, and directs and accompanies the school’s various choirs.

Cleo began her violin training under Chika Robertson at the Junior Royal Academy of Music, before continuing her studies with Yu Yasuraoka at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and with Sigrid Kuulmann-Martin in Estonia. Alongside her work in education, her professional background includes freelance session work across film, TV, and studio recordings, as well as composing original music for theatre productions and international competitions.

As an educator, Cleo has extensive experience preparing students for all major music examination boards and has maintained a 100% exam pass rate. She was previously selected to train as an ABRSM examiner in the UK, and she frequently serves as a piano accompanist for her students’ assessments and recitals.

Throughout her teaching career, Cleo has guided students to successful entry into national youth orchestras and top university programs in the UK. In her current leadership role, she draws on her professional performance and composition background to build skills, confidence, and musical literacy in young performers across music, dance, and drama.

Teaching Info

As an educator, I take a child-centered approach that prioritizes student engagement and enjoyment, believing that a sustainable practice routine naturally grows from a genuine love for playing. I infuse lessons with humor so students leave feeling energized and excited to practice. My expectations are simple yet foundational: students come to lessons equipped with the necessary materials and commit to practicing a little and often, which is the key to consistent progress. Beyond technical proficiency, I strongly emphasize improvisation and composition—both in lessons and through assigned work—to cultivate each student’s creativity and musical voice.
