Bio
Blair began playing music at a young age, and quickly realised that music would be a life-long passion. With an introduction to music from legendary NZ jazz saxophonist, Jim Langabeer, he was an active musician and performer through his schooling years – which flowed naturally into a BMus (Hons) in Jazz Performance on saxophone at the New Zealand School Of Music. “Music has always been exciting for me, and whether it’s learning a new instrument, scales, or styles; my musicality is constantly expanding as I delve into new territory. My latest obsession is looking way back to 50s rock n roll, and 40’s swing; both fantastic music for the saxophone!”
Blair has performed and recorded with many bands and amazing musicians over the years including Brockaflower, Melting Faces, Raw Collective, Tawhiri Funk, The Efficient 5, Roger Fox, Warren Maxwell, Louis Baker, Estere, Zoe Moon, Ashton Sellars, Clay Jenkins, Nick Van Dijk, Jeremy Hantler, and Nick Granville.
Teaching Info
Beginning his teaching career teaching mates at high school, Blair has taught saxophone, flute, guitar, ukulele, and beginner piano for over 20 years, and enjoys passing on his passion for music to others. He finds interest and enjoys all genres and styles of music, with this he creates connections to students through their musical tastes and interests.
With years of experience performing, recording, and leading bands, Blair can help with live performances, improvising, creating bands and projects, reading music, theory, ear training, artistic development, online content, and releasing recordings.
