Bio
Annabelle Stewart | Auralis Music Academy
I am a Tauranga based music educator and director of Auralis Music Academy, a growing music school offering instrumental lessons and ensemble programmes for students of all ages.
I remain the primary tutor within the academy, teaching across brass, woodwind, piano/keyboard, and music theory. I am also beginning to expand the academy’s offering, with additional tutor support as the programme continues to grow across local schools and private lessons.
Auralis Music Academy provides both individual tuition and wider music opportunities, including concert band and brass band programmes, as well as school-based instrumental teaching. The focus is on building strong foundations while creating clear pathways into ensemble playing and long-term musical development.
My teaching is structured, supportive, and tailored to each student, whether they are complete beginners or more advanced players. I specialise in brass instruments (particularly trumpet and cornet), while also offering beginner to intermediate tuition across a range of instruments.
Alongside the academy, I work as an itinerant brass and woodwind teacher across Tauranga schools and conduct the Tauranga City Brass Auxiliary Band, supporting accessible and inclusive music making within the community.

Lesson Structure
At Auralis Music Academy, lessons are tailored to each student’s individual needs, goals, interests, and learning style. Teaching is structured and consistent, with a focus on building strong technical foundations while ensuring students enjoy the process of learning their instrument.
Lessons are offered on a term enrolment basis, with weekly sessions designed to support steady progress and long-term development. This structured approach allows students to build skills over time and engage more meaningfully with their learning.
Programmes can be shaped around specific goals where needed, including NCEA assessments, auditions, and performance preparation. Support can also be provided for Trinity College London exams, although exam pathways remain optional and guided by each student’s direction.
In addition to private tuition, Auralis Music Academy also delivers school-based instrumental programmes and ensemble direction, working with schools to support classroom music, concert bands, and brass programmes.
Students of all ages and backgrounds are welcome, from beginners through to more advanced players. The academy works with a wide age range, currently from around 9 years old through to adult learners.
Auralis Music Academy is committed to inclusive music education. Students with disabilities or additional needs are warmly welcomed. Annabelle is fluent in NZSL (New Zealand Sign Language), has knowledge of braille music, and experience working with a range of physical and intellectual disabilities.
I hadn't picked up a trumpet in over 20 years, but with Annabelle's excellent instruction I was able to reach my goal of joining the local brass band within a matter of months of starting lessons. I would happily recommend Annabelle to anyone wanting to learn a brass instrument or further their skills. Her lessons are fun and motivational, and she is great at choosing material and creating lesson plans that suit your individual needs and goals.
Renata (Adult Student)
Annabelle is a knowledgeable, caring and patient teacher, who communicates the fundamentals of music and technique clearly to her students. The clarity and pace of her lessons ensures engagement and I have witnessed the rapid rate at which students progress on their instruments under her tutelage. Annabelle is a competent teacher in single or small group settings, as well as being able to quietly command the attention of a room of students in a concert band setting. She is obviously passionate about music and music education, which she genuinely instils in her students.
