Ben Hunt is a freelance musician and teacher based in Wellington, New Zealand. Since graduating from the New Zealand School of Music with a PGDipMus and BMus (jazz) in 2011, Ben has made a name for himself as a versatile, in-demand trumpet player.

Ben is currently principal trumpet of the RNZAF Band, and lead trumpet with both the Rodger Fox Big Band and Wellington Mingus Ensemble. He plays and writes original music with Richter City Rebels, Raw Collective, and Niko Ne Zna.
Not only a commercial and jazz player, Ben has also performed with Orchestra Wellington, and was a featured soloist with the NZSM Brass Ensemble at the 2010 Melbourne International Festival of Brass. Other festivals Ben has performed at include the 2017 Monterey Jazz Festival, WOMAD, Rhythm and Vines, Splore, Homegrown, Tora Tora Tora, Tauranga Jazz Festival and Wellington Jazz Festival.
In 2012/13 Ben spent eight months working as a trumpet player onboard Princess cruise ships, travelling through the Mediterranean, Baltic, Caribbean, and South America.
Other bands Ben is currently with include: Lisa Tomlins and the Presidents of Funk, Superbad Soul Section, Gold Nugget Pawn Shop, Hip-Town Bangers, Percolators Brass Band, Myele Manzana and the Eclectic, and Soldiers of the Pharoah. In a past life he also played percussion for the NZSO National Youth Orchestra (2006-2011).
I believe that playing music should be a fun, enjoyable, rewarding experience. Trumpet is an incredibly versatile instrument and as such I like to teach music in a wide range of styles, along with developing a solid technical foundation.
