Bio

In 2023, I graduated with a Bachelor of Commercial Music with First Class Honours at The College of Creative Arts, Massey University, Wellington. I have been teaching piano for the last eight years to students ranging from 3-18 years of age, as well as mature students. I have a lot to offer with my experience composing for film scores, being a professional session musician across multiple genres and performing alongside artists such as Ben Waters (Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry), Neil Finn and Geoff Sewell.

Lessons will be taught at the student’s house, with flexibility regarding lesson times, including early morning/before school and after school/evening.  Depending on your child’s needs, I can identify areas that require improvement covering technique, learning to read music, music theory, knowledge of pieces, polishing and refinement of pieces, exam preparation, sight-reading skills, performance coaching and teaching productive practice techniques.

My service is enhancing for those who want to extend their ability as musicians and performers. It is particularly rewarding for me to see how quickly my students advance and flourish with my nurturing yet firm approach. Furthermore, I have seen some fantastic exam grades as a result of my work.

Teaching Info

I am kind, patient and adaptable with an ability to connect easily with students of all ages and can readily assess their needs. I enjoy shaping the learning individually with a fun and relaxed, yet effective approach. My point of difference is that I can encourage my students to invest whole-heartedly in their music, rather than seeing it as a chore.

Having perfect pitch is something that came naturally to me and gives an added edge to share in my mentoring, particularly when helping to develop my student’s ability to encourage audible awareness in music (eg: ear tests and refined awareness of the sounds they are producing).

The children really respond well to Bonnie as she is able to relate to them on their level and also tells them about her own experiences when she was their age and how she progressed and the importance of keeping up practices. She is patient and really enjoys seeing them progress.

Gerard Shortall

I have had the opportunity to observe Bonnie in the lessons and have found her to be extremely competent. Bonnie has identified how each child learns best, and utilises different skills to support and encourage them. Bonnie is patient, knowledgeable and can be firm if required. She has a lovely manner with the children and I have no hesitation in recommending her for any future position in the same role.

Ingrid

My children respond well to Bonnie and are keen to do any homework she may set from time to time as she helps to make music fun. I believe if you employed Bonnie, she would add a valuable contribution to your child’s musical development.

Penny Nelson

She helps our son to polish the pieces, the results are outstanding, kid loves her description and explanation way. Bonnie is very responsible and meticulous during her work time. She also brings her wealth of knowledge to her work.
