Bio
Hi! I’m Camille Wells, and I’m an American oboist based in Auckland, New Zealand. Since 2009, I’ve been Associate Principal Oboe of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, and I’ve also maintained a busy musical life in North America, performing as a guest principal oboe with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Minnesota Orchestra, and Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, as well as guest oboist in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and most recently, acting Associate Principal Oboe of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (2024-25).
Teaching oboe is one of my greatest passions. I have fifteen years of experience sharing my knowledge of music, oboe technique, and reed-making with students of every level, including helping students excel at ABRSM exams. I was fortunate to have some of the world’s best teachers: Boston Symphony principal oboist John Ferrillo, former Philadelphia Orchestra principal oboist Richard Woodhams, and Linda Strommen, formerly of the Metropolitan Opera, and I am grateful to share that musical lineage with my students.
If you would like to improve your oboe technique, work toward an audition or exam, or hone your reed making skills, I would love to guide you.
