I’ve been teaching people to play the flute for nearly 30 years, and I love helping students find joy and confidence in playing music!
I trained as a classroom music teacher and taught in local high schools for 5 years before I started my family and returned to the instrumental teaching I had enjoyed during my university years. I am well-versed in the NCEA system and the requirements for practical music assessments at all levels.
I currently teach as an itinerant flute teacher in Auckland high schools, as well as working from my private studio. I have full registration with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Whether you want to sit exams, are working towards NCEA Performance credits, or just want to play for fun, we can plan creative and fulfilling lessons together!
I particularly enjoy playing flute accompaniment (like a duet!) along with my students when they are learning repertoire, to give them a sense of the whole piece and to help develop strong ensemble skills.
I have a strong tone focus and will do everything I can to help you sound your best!
I have a special interest in neurodiversity and mental health and have particular strengths in working with students who are Gifted and/or have ADHD, or who are struggling with anxiety and/or OCD. My studio is a safe space where students can relax and be themselves without fear of judgement or the need for masking.
I can help you reach your goals in a fun and supportive way!
