Bio

I’ve been teaching people to play the flute for over 30 years, and I love helping students find joy and confidence in playing music!

I trained as a classroom music teacher and taught in local high schools for 5 years before I started my family and returned to the instrumental teaching I had enjoyed during my university years. I am well-versed in the NCEA system and the requirements for practical music assessments at all levels, and both Trinity and ABRSM exam systems. I also love teaching beginners!

I have full registration with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand, and am registered with the Institute of Registered Music Teachers of New Zealand (IRMTNZ)

Teaching Info

Whether you want to sit exams, are working towards NCEA Performance credits, or just want to play for fun, we can plan creative and fulfilling lessons together!

What to Expect in Your Lessons

I play flute accompaniments along with my students, to give them a sense of the whole piece and to help develop strong ensemble skills.

I will do everything I can to help you sound your best!

I have a special interest in the link between neurodiversity and hypermobility, and how this affects us as flute players. I focus strongly on posture and make sure that those of us with bendy joints can continue to play without pain or injury.

I have a special interest in neurodiversity, and have particular strengths in working with students who are Gifted, have ADHD, are autistic, or who are struggling with anxiety.

My studio is also LGBTQIA+ friendly, and is a safe space where students can relax and be themselves without fear of judgement.

I can help you reach your goals in a fun and supportive way!
