Bio

I am an experienced  and qualified Suzuki and Traditional Piano Teacher.  I teach a contemporary style of Traditional Piano and basic modern piano to older students and adult absolute beginners and improvers. I love teaching mature beginners ,with sensitivity. I also welcome pianists who learned many years ago and are returning to piano.  I love teaching teenagers, and other adults.  My studio is friendly, inclusive and low stress, no exams!  I am happy to share music with you regardless of any ability issues. I now teach a modified Suzuki approach -students from age 5, no upper age limit to this wonderful holistic method. I have worked as a music specialist/ music therapist at The Champion Centre in Christchurch, and have also worked in early childhood music education. I am also an artist and a  holistic therapist.

Teaching Info

My lessons are fun and tailored to suit the learning style of each individual student. A well rounded music education is a wonderful gift at any age! With children, the ear is developed first and reading of music begins at around age 7, however theory is incorporated from the first lesson. Time may be spent on the floor and at the piano. Parents are encouraged to  always attend, with siblings if possible.

With adult beginners, we begin music reading, playing by ear and a mixture of modern and classical, depending on what goal you have in mind.I am extremely flexible and focused on what you want to do. Often adults are  not totally sure, and thats fine as well. I often have VERY nervous adults start, and within a few weeks they are playing and having FUN. I have many adults of all ages who took lessons as a child and gave up, or who simply haven’t played for a number of years.
