Bio
Hi there, I’m Dona, a passionate music teacher with 10 years of experience helping young beginners fall in love with music. I specialise in teaching children aged 5-12, creating a fun and supportive environment where they can build confidence and enjoy learning at their own pace.
Whether your child is picking up an instrument for the first time or just curious about music, I tailor each lesson to keep things engaging, educational, and age-appropriate. My goal is to spark a lifelong love of music, while building skills that grow with them.
I primarily teach keyboard, for the moment, and I’m always happy to chat to see if we’re a good fit! I’ve found that young beginners thrive in lessons with 2-3 students around the same age and experience level, so feel free to bring a friend’s child along as well!
Teaching Info
My lessons are designed to spark curiosity and joy while building a strong musical foundation. We explore the keyboard through fun, hands-on activities that help students feel comfortable and excited to play.
Each lesson includes a mix of:
- Keyboard exploration – learning how to navigate the keys in a playful, creative way. We use a take-home method book for this and also educational games.
- Basic music theory – introduced gently through games, activities and a take-home theory method book.
- Listening skills – helping students recognise sounds, patterns, and rhythms whilst also using percussion instruments to create their own rhythms.
- Improvisation – encouraging self-expression and creativity, based on listening skills
- Musical confidence – building self-esteem through encouragement and small successes. We start each class with a show-and-tell of what each student learned the week before.
My teaching style is relaxed and child-led, meaning I adapt to each student’s pace and interests. I focus on making lessons enjoyable, so children stay inspired and look forward to their musical journey every week.
