Bio

At age 7, Frank began his musical journey starting on classical piano. His interest in music slowly waned until a band showcase in an assembly at age 10, after which he convinced (begged) his parents to start him on drum lessons. Instantly, he was hooked and music has since been a central part of his life.

All through school, Frank played through every genre under the sun and tried far too many different instruments before enrolling at Ara Institute of Canterbury to study a Bachelor of Music specialising in jazz performance on the drums. As a student, he began playing professionally in bands and groups with other students, tutors, and people in the local music industry. Soon he began began teaching music lessons too and has found a great joy in sharing his passion for music and being able to lead others down the same path.

Since then, Frank graduated and now primarily teaches drums, piano, and ensemble lessons to all ages (happy to teach parents too!), and he continues to play gigs and shows outside of lessons.

Teaching Info

Beginner – Anatomy of the instrument, grooves, fills, playing to music, basic songs

Intermediate – Scales, basic rudiments, exercises, technique, reading music, aural training, full songs, how to practise

Advanced – Improvisation, transcription, sight reading, advanced exercises & techniques, theory

Every lesson is tailored to the individual needs and goals of each student. Materials are often created specifically for what a student is learning and what a student wants to learn, in addition to pre-existing material.

Having fun is always a priority because at the end of the day, that’s what music’s for! By creating engaging lessons, students are more motivated to learn harder things, master their instrument, and push their own limits.

The music covered spans many different genres to learn the vast world of music and different ways to approach the instrument to become a well-rounded, versatile musician.

Lessons are available from 3:00PM onwards on weekdays.
