Bio
Indiana has been studying the violin for eleven years and is very passionate about music – especially orchestral music and chamber music. She loves performing, as this enables her to share music with others. She is interested in all kinds of genres, having played fiddle music, bluegrass, pop and jazz as well as traditional classical music that violinists are predominantly known to play. From a young age, she developed her musical skills playing in a flute, violin and cello
trio known as “The Bellbird Trio” with her sisters. Originally, they started off with busking, but have also been hired out for events including weddings, birthdays and other celebrations as well receiving various opportunities to perform at a variety of festivals and functions.
With her musical path beginning at Halswell Primary School, it wasn’t long before she was receiving placings in the instrumental category in the Music Awards, obtaining 3rd place overall in 2015 & 2016. After transitioning to Cobham Intermediate school, she adopted the role of the leader of both the Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra and received the Cup for Musical Leadership in 2018. She also was a successful auditionee for the Christchurch Schools’ Music Festival Orchestra during this time.
At Burnside High School, she has successfully auditioned for the prestigious
Specialist Music Programme and has received a multitude of performance
opportunities. A few of these include collaborative string projects with Professor
Mark Menzies and the UC strings, Big Band and Strings projects, Junior Strings
and end of year, mid-year and NCEA recitals. In all of these she obtained
excellence and received excellence subject endorsements for music in 2021,
2022 and 2023. She has been involved in an array of ensembles including the
Burnside High School Orchestra (which has won numerous Gold Awards in the
“Aurora Festival”) and Chamber Music groups which have competed in the NZCT Chamber Music Competitions. In 2021, she was selected as a violin soloist to perform “Galway Gal” with Magna Voce in the Big Sing Regional Competition.
Over her time at Burnside High School, she has received music awards each year, earning seven last year. In 2023, she successfully made it to the NZCT Chamber Music Regional Finals and South Island Finals and was Assistant Concertmaster of the Burnside High School orchestra, co-leader of the CSO Virtuosi second violin section, and she sat the Scholarship Music Exam.
This year, she is partaking in a year-long performance music course at the
University of Canterbury and is Assistant Concertmaster of the Christchurch
Youth Orchestra. She also was the recipient of the 2024 Liedertafel Male Voice Choir scholarship.

In my lessons, I believe that personalized learning is key. As your instructor, I prioritize patience and individualized attention to ensure each student progresses at their own pace. In our lessons, students can expect a supportive environment where their unique learning styles and goals are embraced. I tailor my teaching materials to suit each student’s needs, whether they’re beginners mastering the basics or advanced players refining their techniques. Through a combination of classical repertoire, technique exercises, and musical theory, I aim to foster a comprehensive understanding of the violin while nurturing a passion for music.
