Bio

I have always loved playing music, whether in an orchestra, jamming on jazz standards with my family, or exploring the complexities of solo Bach. I pursued cello studies at the University of Waikato with James Tennant and the University of Otago with Heleen du Plessis, during which I performed with Opus Orchestra in Hamilton, Dunedin Symphony Orchestra and the NZSO National Youth Orchestra. Since completing my studies in early 2022, I have been teaching music and freelancing in Wellington and Palmerston North. Some recent performances have included playing in the Box Hill Piano Quartet, Pinanaeda Quartet, Trio Bella, and joining friends’ bands to play their original music.

Teaching Info

I’ve been teaching music part-time for over seven years and have recently gone full-time. My aim is to inspire students to hone their craft and develop their own musical personality. I’m willing to jump on board with any personal goals in cello playing, whether this looks like taking exams or learning pieces for fun. I’m conscious of building good technical habits early on, with a focus on finding a relaxed, natural way of approaching the instrument.

I teach students of all levels, from first encounters with the instrument to preparation for Trinity exams.

I also teach music theory and beginner piano, guitar and ukulele in primary schools and would be happy to get anyone started on these.

Local to Newlands, Johnsonville, and Churton Park areas, I would consider traveling to student’s homes to make music learning more accessible. Please get in touch!
