Bio

Any level of playing is welcome. Over 6 years of teaching experience ranging from 5 year olds to adults. With 17 years of playing experience, there will be something to be learned. Currently the Drummer for Queen City Big Band.

Breeze through Rockschool grades from debut to Diploma, and NCEA assessments.

I have been playing the drums for 17 years, and I am currently in my third year of Jazz Music degree at the University of Auckland. I have played in a local Auckland band Coffin Club since finishing my Master’s degree in Marketing at University of Auckland.

With over 6 years of teaching experience at private music lesson agencies, I have developed a keen sense of what an individual needs to improve their playing both on the drumkit itself and musically as a whole.

I would prefer contact through text messages or email, as I may not be available at all times.

Teaching Info

I am currently offering lessons at the students’ locations during after-school hours. Contact me to discuss arrangements for lessons.

I do have a strict teaching style, so there will be an emphasis on progress.

What you can expect in a lesson from me,
– Strong focus on fundamentals
– Better understanding of how to practice efficiently
– Preparation for performing in different settings (recording, live, etc).

If there are other specific goals you are trying to achieve, feel free to let me know and we will work out how to work towards them.

What I expect from students,

– Attempt at completion of any given work.
It is imperative for any student of any subject to spend time on practice, it would be detrimental to the both of us if no preparations were taken before a lesson.

– Focus.
There is nothing worse than to forget what had happened in a lesson. At best you would lose a week’s worth of learning, at worst you will end up reinforcing incorrect habits that will take far more than a week to fix.

– Thinking.
If there is anything you do not understand or agree with, be sure to make it known. Practice is most efficient when you have a clear understanding of why you are doing it.

The materials I use are available for purchase through different sources and publishers. I will advise you on the materials to acquire as the need arises.
