Bio
Larissa King is a singer, guitarist, songwriter and music tutor based in Tauranga, New Zealand. After developing a love of singing and songwriting from an early age, she began her music career at high school, performing regularly at local and Auckland venues, her church and in competitions such as Smokefree Rock Quest and Primal Acoustic sessions.
She completed the Bachelor of Popular Music songwriting degree at the University of Auckland in 2012, performing regularly and honing and diversifying her skill.
As a finalist in the Songwriter of the year competition in 2012, she enjoyed stints on Kiwi FM and Balcony TV and began playing larger venues around Auckland city both solo and collaboratively.
Since then, Larissa has transitioned into teaching, while continuing to write her own music. She specializes in vocal coaching, where she implements Estill vocal technique. She also loves to engage and activate young people with beginner songwriting lessons, developing her own 10-week course covering basic instrumentation, rhythm, lyric writing, and recording. Larissa also offers lessons in beginner guitar, piano and combined singing + guitar and singing + keyboard lessons.
Her musical influences range from Jeff Buckley to Silk Sonic, with an unrelenting soft spot for indie rock, moving, emotive lyrics and jazz vocals. Larissa has an engaging, fun and creative teaching style.
She loves to awaken a love of music in her students and inspire them to reach their full potential.
