Lindy Tennent-Brown is a multiple award-winning pianist with more than 25 years of professional experience teaching piano and music theory to learners of all levels. From her peaceful home studio near Clevedon, east of Auckland, she teaches advanced students (Grade 5 and above) and adult beginners. She also offers vocal coaching (repertoire, languages, recital/audition/role preparation) to advanced opera and music theatre singers.
Lindy trained at Victoria University of Wellington (Judith Clark) and at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester (Margaret Fingerhut, Martin Roscoe). She won the NZ National Piano Competition at Kerikeri in 2000, and was an inaugural Young Artist at London’s prestigious Wigmore Hall 2004-06.
For two decades, Lindy maintained a busy career as a freelance pianist, vocal coach, répétiteur, and music director based in London, UK. She has worked as music staff for all the major UK opera houses and companies, and her vocal coaching clients are employed in opera and music theatre internationally. Over 12 years Lindy played keyboards on more than twenty shows in London’s West End music theatre scene.
Lindy taught piano for several years at Trinity School in Croydon – home of the world-famous Trinity Boys’ Choir, and the only all-Steinway school in greater London. She also taught the most advanced students at the school’s conservatoire-preparation programme, Trinity Music Academy.
She is one of the leading collaborative pianists of her generation, preparing singers and instrumentalists for auditions and exams, and offering first-rate concert accompaniment.
Lindy teaches from her peaceful, well-equipped home studio located in Clevedon, south-east of Auckland. It is easily accessible by car and there is plenty of free parking.
Her teaching style is friendly and warm at the same time as being detailed and precise, and focuses on the student’s technical and artistic development. Students must be self-motivated learners between lessons.
Lindy’s students routinely achieve merit and distinction passes in ABRSM exams. Her teaching draws upon a wide range of music and styles, supported by her extensive knowledge of the solo piano repertoire and a significant library of sheet music.
I love how you get really excited about the tiniest details. Thanks for helping me care about piano technique.
