Bio
Lynley is a Fellow of the Trinity College of London, having passed the highest performance exam offered by the board, and has a Bachelor of Music majoring in Singing Performance. She has a Performing Arts Diploma in Opera and a Diploma in Teaching. She has performed in concerts and at festivals in New Zealand, the UK and in Ireland.
Lynley has been singing and teaching professionally in New Zealand, UK and Ireland for the last twenty years. Performing in numerous concerts, she has worked in the chorus for the New Zealand Opera and Canterbury Opera and as a soloist for the Dunedin Sinfonia. Moving easily between genres and with an affinity for folk music, she has performed at folk concerts and festivals in New Zealand and in Ireland, where she lived for several years.
Her passion for jazz has lead her to have residencies performing with her own duo and quartet and she has also performed as a soloist with The Garden City Big Band. She formed a folk duo with Bridget Ellis which culminated in a recording of Bridget’s original compositions entitled Swingbridge. As a soloist she has released two CD’s: Treading on Enchanted Ground, a collection of original compositions and Waiting for the Lark, a collection of traditional folk songs. She has recorded for Concert FM.
Lynley has formed and conducted a number of choirs (in New Zealand and Ireland) focusing on world music: Solas Nua, Lilt, Fly by Night and The Southern Lights. She has also facilitated numerous vocal workshops.
As a teacher, she has worked both as a high school music teacher and as an itinerant vocal tutor including work as a vocal tutor on the Hagley High School Jazz course and at NASDA. She continues to teach singing privately.
She plays harp, piano, guitar, ukulele and bodhran.
