Michael McMillan

Kia ora, I’m a guitarist, pianist, songwriter and producer with a deep love for creativity in all its forms. I have written, produced and released three records, and spent many years touring throughout New Zealand.

Alongside my work as a musician, I have ten years of experience as a teacher aide, helping young people build confidence and express themselves through music and the arts.

What I love about music extends beyond the songs themselves—it includes the imagery, music videos and creative worlds that artists build around their work. Most of all, I’m interested in how people develop their own unique voice through the instruments they play and the music they create.

My hope is to help students feel confident, curious and playful in their practice, while nurturing whatever it is they want to express through music.

Guitar, Piano, Songwriting, and Production Lessons

I’m a kind and patient teacher, and I shape each lesson around the individual student and what is happening in the moment.

We can explore songs you love by listening, working from chords or using guitar tabs. Lessons can also cover scales, chord shapes, modes, picking and strumming techniques, improvisation and songwriting.

My goal is to help students understand their instrument while also feeling free to explore it. Whether you are learning guitar or piano, I want you to feel confident finding your way through a song, experimenting with ideas and using music to express feeling and emotion.
