Bio
Revelation Sound NZ is a fully equipped online and in-studio music teaching and audio engineering studio, based in Canterbury, New Zealand.
Michael Petrus is a professional musician, composer, audio engineer, and qualified music teacher. His 20 year career has spanned a wide array of experiences, from lead singer in a popular Christchurch band, to studying Audio Engineering at the highly regarded SAE in Auckland, and training in classical singing and composition in a BMus (Hon. 1st Class) at the University of Waikato. He was a member of NBR New Zealand Opera for several years, and has sung as tenor soloist for NZ Opera and numerous choral groups around New Zealand. He is currently conductor of a small choral group in Christchurch, specialising in Gregorian Chant and polyphony.
His teaching career, both as a secondary school music teacher and private music teacher, encompasses many musical styles, from classical to contemporary, solo artists, ensembles, bands, and choral groups. His students have enjoyed much success both in NCEA Performance and Composition standards, and in the Smokefree Rockquest and Tangata Beats.
As a composer and audio engineer, he works on a range of projects for New Zealand and International clients, frequently working with solo artists and most recently, composing and recording music for television.
Teaching Info
Our live, online music lessons are taught using professional audio and video equipment, producing a high quality experience for students.
We offer quality tuition in a range of musical instruments, including guitar, voice (classical training and contemporary- not belting), drums, choral and polyphonic singing, Gregorian Chant, song-writing and composition, theory, NCEA preparation, and music technologies.
One of our specialities is working with singer-songwriters, offering individualised coaching in their instruments, music composition methods and tips, bespoke backing tracks, and recording services, to bring their project to life.
One-on-one and group lessons are available. We offer flexible options, so please get in touch to discuss your needs or project.
Teaching enables me to do what I love every day and share my passion for making quality music with my students, which I consider a privilege. I enjoy working and teaching in a wide range of musical styles, from classical to contemporary, with solo singers and musicians, bands, and choral groups.
