Bio

I’m a singer, composer, performance-maker and singing teacher with more than 40 years’ experience working with voice, music and performance.

For me, singing is about more than learning to sing the notes correctly. It’s about discovering what your own voice can do — developing greater freedom, confidence and expression while building a sound technique underneath it.

I work with adults and young people, from complete beginners and people returning to singing after many years, through to experienced singers and performers wanting to develop their voice further.

My own work has taken me across songwriting, recording, theatre, live performance and composition. I bring that breadth of experience into my teaching, alongside a practical understanding of what it can feel like to put your voice out into the world.

Lessons are one-to-one from my Mount Pleasant studio in Christchurch.

Teaching Info

Lessons are shaped around you: your voice, your goals and, importantly, the music you actually want to sing.

We can work on:

• developing a freer, more connected voice
• breath and vocal support
• pitch, range, resonance and tone
• releasing unnecessary tension
• confidence and overcoming inhibition
• interpretation and emotional connection to a song
• preparing songs for performance or recording
• developing your individual sound and artistic identity

You don’t need to arrive already thinking of yourself as “a singer”. Curiosity and a willingness to explore are enough.

My aim is not to give you somebody else’s voice. It’s to help you become increasingly at home in your own.
