Bio
I work with young flutists of all levels and have studied with world-renowned teachers including Uwe Grodd (NZ), Kathryn Moorhead (Australia), Robert Aitken (Canada) and Keith Underwood (USA). I pride myself on teaching excellent fundamentals from the very first lesson and my students hold music scholarships around Auckland.
Teaching Info
I teach mostly from the ABRSM graded syllabus, supplementing pieces with sight-reading duets, tone studies, technical exercises, assorted etudes, and individual guidance for each learner. Your child will need a flute to start with, but I am able to provide most of everything else!
Before my tertiary study I was fortunate to tour for two years with the Singapore Music and Drama Company, playing with excellent young musicians including Kong Xianlong, Mervyn Lee, and Gabriel Ng Song Quan, winner of the Bach Prize in the Menuhin Competition. I love taking inspiration from other instruments and try to develop well-rounded musicality in my students. I also have a deep interest in how the body works in flute-playing, inspired by personal experience and my lessons with Keith Underwood.
I’m currently taking new students at my home studio in Bucklands Beach, close to Macleans Primary, Mellons Bay, and Bucklands Beach Intermediate.
