Bio
Music has always been in my family and I couldn’t imagine life without it. After obtaining my ATCL (Teachers) as a teenager I have done various things over the years but teaching is now my passion and I am embracing digital exams with my students this year, as well as furthering my own musical qualifications when time allows.
I have a home based studio in Waipahihi with a Yamaha piano, Yamaha keyboard and Elka Organ. I have an incentive system whereby students can gain rewards through practicing and achievement, through saving stamps and trading them in (for toys/games/music paraphernalia etc).
Teaching Info
I primarily teach reading from music, however being a multifaceted artist, I teach with a strong focus on musical creativity. I encourage students to tap into their own creativity and I tailor lessons according to the individual’s unique needs, abilities and musical preferences.
Practice should be fun and making mistakes is all part of the learning process. I focus on what can be learnt from our mistakes and view them as a necessary and positive part of learning. In this respect, I believe in nurturing self‐esteem through good attitude, validation and setting developmentally appropriate goals.
