Teaching music is my passion, and my greatest satisfaction comes from seeing my students developing their love for music! As a musician, I have over 15 years of experience playing in various bands and ensembles all over the UK, as well as some performances in Europe. Most recently, these have included playing piano in a blues ensemble and The Customs House Big Band (Jazz ensemble) while based in the UK. During my undergraduate degree, I majored in composition and arrangement. This has helped me develop an in depth knowledge of classical, jazz  and pop theory, as well as orchestration and arranging techniques. I have used this knowledge to teach music theory and composition up to and including undergraduate level.

Teaching Info

For the last 7 years, I have taught piano and music theory sessions full time in the UK, teaching over 60 students week. These were a mix of individual and groups lessons and covered an age range of 5 to 80. I have a proven track record of good exam results, with the majority of students gaining merit and distinction, and I have yet to have a student fail an exam. Exams, of course, are not for everybody and a proportion of my students choose not to take them. In these sessions, we plan lessons according to the learner’s goals and interests. Using a mix of genres, as well as music chosen by the learner, we use the instrument to explore new music and ideas while making steady progression. Remember, these are your lessons, so everything is tailored for you!

I am also a qualified UK classroom teacher, and currently studying a MA education, giving me an in-depth knowledge of the learning process and how to get the best from my students.
