I have played viola for the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra for many years. I’m also the founder and manager of the Garden City Quartet, a string quartet which plays for weddings and other functions. See gardencityquartet.nz
I studied viola from distinguished teachers including Prof. Donald Maurice, and CSO principal violist Serenity Thurlow. I am also a fully registered Secondary School teacher, and have taught several years of itinerant and private tuition in both violin and viola (also beginner cello, trumpet, guitar, piano).
My hobbies and interests are numerous, including soil science study, organic gardening, tramping, social justice work, and diy building :)
Location: My home near Halswell on a Monday evening or Saturday morning. If you choose to have a Saturday lesson, please be aware that I need to sometimes cancel due to rehearsals or tramping.
Any ages welcome, I have mostly taught Secondary School age and adults in the past. Violin/viola lessons can be taught in either Traditional or Suzuki methods, to suit the learning styles, aims and interests of individual students. Classical/Folk/Pop/Irish.
Classes follow school terms usually.
I would like music to be affordable to everyone, so I’m thinking of starting a group class for beginners which would be only $5 per week. Let me know if you’re interested, and if I have enough people interested in this option I’ll run the class. It could branch out to an intermediate class too if there’s enough interest.
