Bio

I am enthusiastic about music and teaching students to enjoy their instruments and become better players. I have taught years 9, 10 and 11 music at high school and taught private piano students over the last few years. As well as playing classical piano, I’ve enjoyed playing modern rock/pop with the church band for many years and am open to teaching both styles of music. I like to tailor my lessons to the student to give them the best experience of learning.  I also enjoy playing other instruments, playing flute in the Capital City Wind Band and singing in a  number of choirs over the years. I am flexible with times and open to home visits.

Teaching Info

I tailor my lessons to the student’s learning interests. Beginning with learning the notes of the keyboard and rhythms progressing to learning to play simple short pieces through fun learning activities. Then I teach how to read music and play from sheet music. Interspersed is room for creativity from the student to compose some of their own sections of music.  As well as a classical approach teaching students to read music and potentially aiming for Trinity Exams I also teach chords and how these relate to modern pop songs if this is of interest to the student.

We have had Debbie as piano teacher for my 8 years old for just about a year now. She is very flexible with the time and location which is very convenient for busy parents like us. More importantly she is very good with kids, especially someone just start learning piano and her teaching style sparks interest which I personally believe is very important at the early stage of learning. I would highly recommend Debbie for her professional skills, gentle teaching approach and just all around as a nice person to deal with.

Debbie has been teaching Thay for over a year now and he has improved immensely during that time. She has a very special connection with him and is very kindhearted. Thay stated when she teaches him he is actually interested to learning. Her teaching style is very practical as she sits next to her students and guides them through the notes, helping and encouraging them when needed. She is a very reliable person who turns up every lesson at the same time.
