Elena is an accomplished free-lance cellist based out of Hamilton after recently completing post graduate performance studies with James Tennant at the University of Waikato, receiving First Class Honours. In 2016, Elena graduated from Victoria University in Wellington with a Bachelor of Music in cello performance.
In addition to performing frequently around New Zealand as a soloist, ensemble member and orchestral member, Elena is also the current cello tutor at Hamilton’s community centre of music. Teaching is one of her biggest passions, she caters to all ages, abilities and needs, both in group classes and one on one (Note: Skype classes available).
Elena provides a strong technical foundation and shares her love of music in every aspect of her teaching. Elena has an in-depth knowledge of all the different grade systems, allowing the students and parents a choice of which direction they would like to take; She runs two student concerts a year (mid-year and final recital) to give the students experience and prepare them for upcoming exams.
Elena has a very hands on and active approach to music, she likes to make lessons fun and enjoyable for everyone so she incorporates movement and various educational games into the students learning which have proven to be advantageous especially for children of young ages or beginner musicians. Parents are welcome to sit in on lessons and quietly observe so they can act as the teacher at home and actively be part of their child’s learning.
