Bio

Jack Thirtle is a freelance musician and teacher based in Auckland, New Zealand. Since graduating from The University of Auckland with a BMus (jazz) in 2019 where he was awarded the KBB jazz trumpet player of the year award, he has made a name for himself as a versatile, in-demand trumpet player.

Jack is the full-time trumpet player of Sir Dave Dobbyn, who he regularly tours Australia and New Zealand with, as well as Flamingo Pier, who he has toured the world with – playing in venues across the United Kingdom, Bali, Berlin, Egypt, New York and Mexico. Jack has also collaborated and performed alongside a variety of legendary New Zealand acts including Katchafire, Avantdale Bowling Club, BENEE, Troy Kingi and Stan Walker to name a few. Jack is also a studio session trumpet player, regularly recording in New Zealand’s top studios on various musical and commercial projects.

With close to a decade of teaching experience both privately and in various Primary, Intermediate and High schools around Auckland, Jack is well-seasoned in guiding students at various stages of their musical journeys.

Lessons will take place at Jack’s teaching studio in Murray’s Bay on the North Shore.

Teaching Info

Lessons are catered to my student’s specific needs and aspirations, always with a focus on developing a solid technical foundation. I am very experienced in preparing students for NCEA performances, graded exams (Trinity, ABRSM), and University auditions. I can also teach jazz improvisation to interested students.

Overall I believe learning the trumpet should be a fun and rewarding experience, and I make it a priority that students will come away from lessons feeling inspired and eager to improve.
