I am a passionate violinist originally from the UK, who recently graduated with a BA (Hons) in Music. I’ve played in the University of York Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra and Leeds Symphony Orchestra, and the Eboracum String Quartet, where we have played for BBC Radio, undertaken masterclasses with Consone Quartet and Quator Diotima, and performed in Westminster Abbey. I have taken masterclasses with Simon Blendis from the Schubert Quartet and in 2017 I performed Bruch’s Violin Concerto no. 2 in G minor in Oakham Chapel. I have participated in competitions such as the Nottingham Young Music of the Year Competition and BBC Songs of Praise School Choir Of the Year. I have been two years experience of private tuition now, and I am confident working with both children and adults. I have also completed a year as Graduate Assistant at Wycombe Abbey school, running and manging Orchestras and providing ensemble coaching. I am approachable, organised and efficient, and fully DBS checked. Before teaching, I volunteered with music groups and in schools.
My aim is to not only to teach but to inspire and allow others to share in my passion for the violin. I believe in a firm, friendly and honest approach. I am keen to teach technique, and I often go back to basics with a lot of my students, as often it can be technical issues which are causing problems with repetoire. I also recognise the importance of enjoying playing, as well as progressing technically – therefore, you can expect a balance of hard work and fun in lessons and in practice. I expect my students to practice hard, in order to make the most out of their tuition and talent. I have taught a variety of students, ranging from toddlers at beginner level, to adults and up to Grade 8 level (highest level of achievement in the UK)
'Both of my children had the opportunity to work with Jessica learning violin. She is a wonderful teacher and extremely talented. My children really enjoyed their lessons as they were fun and she kept them focused which is such a great skill.'
'Jessica is a really talented violinist and natural teacher. My 5 yr old looks forward to each lesson, as do I. Definitely recommend!!'
'Jessica is an amazing violinist and even though I am a complete novice still at playing, each lesson I have with her I finish feeling more confident as her teaching style and skills are exemplary! I would highly recommend anyone thinking of starting out with the violin to go with Jess.'
'Jessica is a fun and enthusiastic teacher. She gave my son lots of encouragement and helpful feedback which meant he progressed, even during lockdown when lessons were on zoom. Would recommend her!'
