Teaching Info
Who are saxophone lessons for?
Anyone! Whether you’re an experienced player who played in high school big band, an adult beginner wanting to start something new, a university student who wants some tips in creativity and improv or a beginner student in primary or intermediate school. As long as you have a saxophone anyone is welcome!
Where are you located?
I teach from the beautiful, lush and tranquil suburb of Titirangi, West Auckland. A meditative retreat and space to immerse yourself in music.
What can you teach me?
I cater towards every student, keeping an open dialogue between what they would like to learn on the saxophone and what I believe will help them achieve their goals. Main things I teach include..
Technique (developing fluency on the saxophone through scales, patterns and other exercises)
Sound (learning how to form a beautiful sound on the saxophone through body awareness, diaphragm, breathing, tongue position, overtones and long tones)
Reading (gaining confidence reading sheet music and learning how to identify markings to express the music fully)
Ear Training and Theory (learning how to identify notes, chords and scales just by hearing them, then being able to replicate that on the saxophone.
Improvisation (learning the intuitive ability to create music on the spot by following your ear, heart and mind)
What genres can you teach me?
Jazz and big band, concert band, hiphop and R&B, reggae, pop
