Bio
Lockie Bennett is a jazz guitarist based in Wellington who specialises in bop-oriented music. Lockie is also regarded as one of New Zealand’s most in-demand straight-ahead jazz guitarists. Since graduating from the New Zealand School of Music in 2021, Lockie has played regularly as both a leader and a side man with some of New Zealand’s top jazz musicians.
When he is not performing at local venues, Lockie teaches guitar privately and at several schools. He also has experience teaching itinerant lessons and classroom music. Lockie has a ‘Master of Teaching and Learning’ and a ‘Bachelor of Music’ (majoring in ‘Jazz Performance’).

These lessons will be best suited for someone eager and wanting to take their skills to the next level. Students can expect to gather ways of practically applying concepts to the guitar and understand the fretboard more holistically and thoroughly. I am an adaptive teacher who is always open to suggestions from my students and happy to provide lessons without commitment to return for a set period.
As I have studied Jazz performance at the New Zealand School of Music I am well equipped to teach Jazz and other genres such as Rock, Metal, Pop & Blues.
As a fully registered classroom teacher with current experience as an itinerant teacher, I have a huge number of students in their first year of guitar and music education. If you too are just starting your musical journey, I’m sure I can help you and give you some clear direction in your playing.
