Luka Reardon is an artist, composer, oboist, and cor anglais specialist.
She made her composer debut in August 2020 with her composition “Oscen – (korimako)” which was performed to high acclaim and led to numerous performances of the work by many professional musicians including performances by international artists Mark Menzies, Richard Mapp, and Margarita Jackson. Her work includes notated compositions and audio-visual works.
As a performer, she has extensive experience performing both orchestral, solo and chamber works, a recent highlight of which includes recording Sir Arnold Bax’s “In Memoriam” where she featured as a cor anglais soloist.
She is a founding member and oboe & cor anglais player in Revolve Ensemble, which is an ensemble that specialises in performances of new music written by young New Zealand composers.
Luka currently studies composition and performance at the University of Canterbury School of Music. With extensive orchestral and chamber performance experience, she worked as an orchestral assistant for several years before leaving in 2020 to focus on her musical studies. Prior to enrolling at the University of Canterbury she worked as a professional illustrator and animator from a young age, studying design in 2019 before pursuing further expression through music. Luka aims to apply her passion for fine art to her compositions, focusing on creating pieces drawn from minimal concepts and experimenting with the combination of visual form and music.
I teach my students the essential fundamentals of sound production, musical interpretation and playing technique, as well as the importance of being flexible and most importantly enjoying yourself.
Lessons can be at my home in St. Albans, the student’s residence or over Zoom.
