Bass Guitar Lessons
Bio
Hey there! I’ve been teaching private bass lessons for 5+ years.
For the past 10 years I’ve been working hard at my craft, learning the techniques and theory required to become a professional working musician. And now after playing some of the biggest (and smallest) stages in NZ, I’m offering you the opportunity to take what I know and jumpstart your Bass abilities to reach your goals! It’s a team effort, and I’ll be beside you, encouraging you at every step.
In my professional career, I’ve had the opportunity to play for different corporate bands which cover a wide range of music; from R&B and Reggae to Blues and Country. These bands can be challenging, asking you to learn 60 songs pronto, or play a song on stage you’ve never heard by ear. Over the years I’ve developed strategies which you can use to help with this. I’ve also been privileged enough to play for artists on stage and in the studio within the R&B and Pop sector. It’s been special playing festivals and on TV, plus small gigs in someone’s backyard. Learning how to deliver what the music needs has been invaluable to my success.
About Me
My bass journey started at church after a short stint on the drums. I play in my local church every week and have a keen interest in the American Gospel Scene. The bass players that inspired me early on are guys like Sharay Reed, Fred Hammond, Maurice Fitzgerald, Matt Ramsey and Frank Brunot. Studying the technique and note choice of these players influenced my style and definitely helped with my professional development. Playing in church is important to me so I’m always interested in helping up and coming bass players learn the craft.
I’m really into R&B/Funk/Jazz Fusion from the 70s-90s. I love the fingerstyle playing of Jaco, Anthony Jackson and Jimmy Johnson. The slap bass from Louis Johnson, Marcus Miller and Mark King. And the chordal work and solos from John Patitucci plus many more musicians.
I’m always learning new things and I enjoy sharing with others what I’ve learned!
