Monique Vossen has been involved in music from a young age. Like many young people she began her musical endeavours on the recorder. An inspiring teacher at Matamata Primary School sparked her interest in music further and encouraged her to play the flute.
Since these humble beginnings she was then taught by Angela Hoy in Tauranga for six years where she gained ATCL with distinction. Monique also won the IRMT Scholarship Competition in Tauranga. Monique was then awarded the High Achievers Scholarship from Massey University to assist with her studies at the New Zealand School of Music (NZSM) as well as the Drysdale Dunn Music Scholarship from Matamata College.
Monique completed a Music Studies major and a Performance major in Classical Flute with Karen Batten at the NZSM (New Zealand School of Music). Monique Vossen has taught the flute for nine years to students in Matamata, Wellington and now Auckland. She thoroughly enjoys watching students progress as well as their enthusiasm for music and learning.
Monique finished a Master of Music in Classical Flute Performance with Professor Uwe Grodd at the University of Auckland in 2014.
She is currently Principal Flute with the Royal New Zealand Navy Band
I like to cater my lessons to the student by determining what music they like and any musical goals that they may have.
My main aim is for the student to receive enjoyment from making music. I believe that teaching music to children from a young age can then enhance their daily lives.
I also like to encourage some of my flute students to sit music exams. These give students a goal to head towards and they ensure fantastic progress.
