Kia Ora!
I found my love for drums at a young age and began drum lessons when I was 7 years old, and have just recently completed a Bachelor of Music majoring in Jazz Performance. I have experience in performing in many different styles, and I work well with a wide range of ages and skill levels.
In addition, I am well versed in using Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs), and in particular Ableton, as both a means to production and as a live performance aid. I have experience performing live with this technology and synthesizing it with a more traditional drum setup, and I can offer a range of creative approaches to performing with the aid of electronics and enhancing creative potential.
I value creativity, freedom of expression, and musicality within my own music, and I am always looking for new approaches and perspectives to my own musical endeavours, as well as sharing this with my friends, musical colleagues, and of course my students.
Teaching Info
I’m a firm believer that learning an instrument or musical skill is like learning a language, and it would be my aim as your teacher to help you find your own musical voice and express yourself creatively through your music.
Lessons would be tailored to your individual aims and musical pathways. These can focus on more fundamental skills (e.g. technique, rudiments) and basic grooves and principles to more advanced features such as improvisation, as well as discussions on practice and workflow to enable you to connect with and express yourself through musically, whilst also having fun making and playing music!
I am able to offer a range of resources to enhance lessons and practices, and in addition I encourage students to bring in their own resources (e.g. videos of performances, charts, songs) that they wish to focus on.
I offer drum lessons based in Lower Hutt, or additionally I can work flexibly within both Wellington and Lower Hutt. For lessons on DAWs and Ableton, again I am able to travel within Wellington or Lower Hutt, and I offer lessons for Ableton based out of Kelburn in Wellington.
