More about me
I am the owner of Keys to Joy Piano Studio, which opened in October 2020 to a small number of students and is now primarily an online studio offering remote piano lessons. I am also the co-owner and director of Hobby Piano Studio, where we provide in-person individual and shared lessons to over 80 students.
I believe everyone who wants to play the piano can play the piano.
– Have you ever wanted to sit down at a piano and play freely?
– Did you take traditional lessons as a child but gave up too early?
– Would you like to give your children or yourself the gift of musical self-expression that will last a lifetime?
You can! The keys to joy are at your fingertips.
We teach a wonderful programme that has students playing great-sounding music across different styles with both hands from the first few lessons. We aim to provide a solid foundation in music, develop creative musicianship, and unlock everyone’s innate musicality.
We temporarily delay reading music while students learn to play with both hands, explore the piano, and become physically comfortable and familiar with the instrument. Just as we learn to talk before we learn to read, we learn to play the piano before we learn to read music.
In our programme, you’ll gain a broad and deep exposure to different styles of music – you’ll learn classical and contemporary music, accompaniment, blues, arranging, a bit of jazz, improvisation, and composition. Those may all seem like slightly scary-sounding words – the crux of it is that you’ll learn to play freely, make your own music when you want to, and play the songs and pieces you’ve always wanted to play.
I teach the Simply Music programme, a revolutionary method developed in Australia by Neil Moore. I am passionate about helping students to enjoy the learning process, have fun playing great music on the piano while developing healthy and safe technique.
Once out of lockdown, I will also be offering a wonderful exploratory programme to children aged 4-6 called Play-a-Story – this is a fantastic programme for students to prepare them for piano lessons. We explore sound and tell stories through music.
