I’m stoked to be teaching electric and double bass, and jazz improvisation at the Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music in Wellington. I also lecture at Te Pūkenga Eastern Institute of Technology focusing on music technology, production, and theory.
I will be available for lessons in Wellington Sunday-Tuesday, and Hawkes Bay Wednesday-Saturday.
These lessons would be best suited to someone who is curious about making music a career. Through tertiary level teaching experience, I can help cultivate the skills necessary to play at a professional level or prepare for study.
I believe musical literacy (understanding what and why your playing) is key to being able to thrive within the New Zealand music scene especially due to how diverse and unique it is! This means focusing on aural training while being bolstered by (actually practical) theory and technical development.
Having played in many covers band as well as many a niche ensemble that outnumbers the audience, I can fluently teach most styles of music that you would come across in Aotearoa. If you have a set idea of what you want to work on then great! Otherwise I’m also happy to lay down a musical pathway.
