I have played saxophone with the Rodger Fox Big Band, Julie Lamb Outfit and my own groups, with whom I’ve performed all across the country as well as in New Orleans and New York. I’ve also played in the saxophone section in the JM Jazz World Orchestra, including once as lead, touring and recording throughout Eastern Europe. As a clarinetist I was twice Woodwind Player of the Year, and a Concerto Competition finalist during my studies, and played 1st Clarinet with the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band.
As a teacher I’ve helped students go from a passing grade to full marks for all pieces in Trinity exams, and jazz students go on to be NZSM Improvisation contest finalists. My goal as a teacher is to convey each step as clearly and effectively as possible through example and analogy. I place an emphasis on good listening/aural skill to give students the skills they need to play and learn independently, and am flexible and very open to questions/requests to help students towards their personal goals.
Please get in touch if pricing is an issue for you to discuss options as I want all lovers of music to have the same opportunities no matter their economic situation.
I learnt clarinet with Frank for around 4 years. I went from barely passing my Grade 5 exam to earning a Distinction in my Grade 6, passing Grades 7 and 8 with high marks, and earning an A in my CIE A Level Music Exam. Frank was an inspiring teacher who gave me a great appreciation for both the technical and musical aspects of the instrument. He reinvigorated my love for music, and always knew how to make lessons engaging and interesting whilst developing my skills. My lessons were a weekly highlight, and I can highly recommend Frank for students of any ability.
Frank is an awesome teacher, he ignited a passion for sax in my son and has a great rapport with his students
