Bio
With over a decade of experience as a professional orchestral musician and double bass teacher, Bella joined the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra as Principal Double Bass in 2021. Prior to this, she spent ten years with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, holding the position of Associate Principal Double Bass.
A native of Ĺtautahi Christchurch, Bella holds a Bachelor of Music from Victoria University of Wellington and a Masters of Music from Rice University in Houston, Texas, where she studied with the renowned pedagogue Paul Ellison. She has performed with numerous orchestras throughout New Zealand, and has also appeared on albums by Neil Finn and Lawrence Arabia. Bella has attended summer festivals at the Lucerne Festival Academy (Switzerland) and Domaine Forget (Quebec), and was a member of the 2008 Southbank Sinfonia in London.
Bella’s teaching expertise spans all ages and abilities, with experience teaching at primary, secondary, and tertiary levels.

Students can expect a warm, enthusiastic and engaging teaching style, with concepts tailored to their experience level and playing goals. Good technique and posture are always a central focus, with the aim of supporting musical expression and facility.
