Bio

I came to Wellington in 2005 to study music at NZSM and have been gigging (in Wellington and further afield in NZ and overseas) and teaching ever since.

I am now a full-time teacher and musician performing in Wellington groups, Newtown Rocksteady, Joe Blossom, Fraser Ross and 04s and the Wooden Box Band to name a few. I teach around 30 students each week, most of which are at Kelburn Normal School where I also teach groups of children in bands and singing groups. The remainder, I teach at my home studio in Island Bay which is where I am currently offering lessons.

Private lessons are $30 for half an hour or $50 for an hour and are usually weekly, which frequency I recommend especially for beginners to keep things progressing. I send an invoice via email once per term though can discuss other options if required.

Please feel free to get in touch via email or phone if you have any questions for me.

Teaching Info

I enjoy teaching any and all styles and after 10 plus years of teaching and 23 years of playing, have experience in a wide range of musical styles. Usually, I teach a mixture of reading music and chord playing through learning popular songs for beginners then move towards more specialised repertoire, composition and theory as desired.

I have taught and teach jazz, rock, pop, classical, bluegrass, flamenco and folk styles of playing.

Jeremy you have fostered Angus’ passion for music, guided him in honing his skill and you have let him play his crazy songs and let him sing his heart out and we have loved it. Thank you so much for all that you have imparted on Angus. We look forward to continuing his musical education at his new school, but his fantastic start we owe to you!
