Bio
Caylen is a music producer, composer for visual media (film/TV), guitarist and bassist with 15+ years of experience working with music industry professionals from around the world. He is passionate about teaching a wide range of styles, including Jazz, Blues, Rock, Pop, R&B, Latin, Country, etc.
Growing up in New York in a musical family, Caylen developed an appreciation for music at a young age. His mother was a classical piano instructor for 40 years and his father is the founder and Director of the American Classical Orchestra. He began studying piano at age 7, and then added 7 years of classical cello study. He picked up the guitar at age 13 and played in rock bands for years before developing an interest in jazz.
Caylen attended classes at the Berklee College of Music and graduated with 2 degrees from the Los Angeles College of Music (LACM) where he was a student of Jody Fisher, Tariqh Akoni, Martin Davich and Jon Kull. During his studies he scored multiple short films and worked on a documentary with Martin Davich.
He worked as a music tutor and recording/performing artist in Los Angeles before moving to New Zealand in 2016. He was the bassist for the Hamilton-based metal band Haast Hunter, the soul/funk band Hin & Co., and has performed with members of L.A.B. and Katchafire. Overseas he has worked with touring artists, Grammy nominees and film industry professionals.
Caylen is currently based in Hamilton, New Zealand. He teaches guitar, bass and (beginner) piano, performs in multiple ensembles, creates educational content for YouTube’s Lucra Jam Tracks, creates promotional content for the Tomplay app, and writes for Doug Stebleton’s music catalog in Los Angeles which provides music for film and TV studies.

Teaching Info
I teach guitar and bass guitar lessons for students of all ages, from beginner to advanced, covering most of the popular music genres. I also teach beginner-level piano. Lessons can be in-person or online, and are typically 30 or 60 minutes. My teaching methods vary from student to student because each has a unique learning style. In general, my aim as a music teacher/tutor is to help students learn their instrument quickly and efficiently in ways that are both fun and creative.
Lessons cover: music theory, ear training, reading (chord charts and notation), songs, improvisation, practice methods, and much more. My students also have free access to backing tracks, chord charts and other useful materials relevant to the lessons.
