Kia ora, my name is Jenny Spark and I’ve been a music teacher for 15 years. I teach piano, keyboard and music theory. Over the years my students have ranged in age from preschool to retired age. I currently accept students from the age of 6+ (no upper limit, older adults are most welcome).
I learned classical piano from age 5 through to teenage years and majored in composition at Waikato University.
Private piano teaching since 2008.
Tutor for Music Makers Music and Movement class at Hamilton Community Centre for Music (2008-2015)
Music group for adults with intellectual disabilities with Neurogenesis Trust (2016) – facilitator
Sir Edmund Hillary Scholar for Performing Arts (Waikato University, 2009-2013)
I try to bring a friendly, supportive yet structured & progress-oriented approach to learning the piano. Students come to lessons for different reasons: for pure enjoyment, curiosity about music and how it works, or wanting lessons structured towards sitting exams. I enjoy exploring a range of musical styles with students according to their interests. I can also teach theory-only lessons.
