Bio

Kia ora, my name is Jenny Spark and I’ve been a music teacher for 16 years, teaching piano, keyboard and music theory. Over the years I’ve had the pleasure of working with students from preschool to retired age. At the moment I accept students from the age of 6+ (no upper limit, older adults are always welcome).

I learned classical piano from age 5 through to teenage years and majored in composition at Waikato University.

Background:

Private piano teaching since 2008. Advanced Performance Certificate in Piano (Trinity)

Tutor for Music Makers Music and Movement class at Hamilton Community Centre for Music (2008-2015)

Music group for adults with intellectual disabilities with Neurogenesis Trust (2016) – facilitator

Sir Edmund Hillary Scholar for Performing Arts (Waikato University, 2009-2013)

Also studied Orff Schulwerk Teaching Level 2 and Suzuki Piano Level 1

Please feel free to make contact if you have any questions or would like to meet me before starting lessons.

Teaching Info

I try to bring a supportive, friendly yet structured, progress-oriented approach to learning the piano. Students come to lessons for different reasons: for pure enjoyment, wanting to understand music more, or wanting lessons structured towards sitting exams. Together we can explore a range of musical styles according to the student’s goals and interests. I can also teach theory-only lessons.

Knowledgeable, patient, supportive and calm - everything you need in a good music teacher. I would recommend Jenny to anyone, young or old, that wishes to play the piano. My daughter loves coming to lessons and has learnt so much in the two terms she has been coming. Your willingness to explain things as many times as needed and your patience when the frustration of a tricky part comes along make you an exemplary teacher. Keep up the great work.
