Mark is a young experienced pianist. He has gained his Associate Diploma in Piano Performance from the New Zealand Music Examinations Board.
Recently Mark played Keyboards One and Four for Wicked the Musical in Auckland in 2013 and regularly accompanies performances and exams for other instruments in Auckland. Since then he has played piano and musically directed on various musicals around Auckland including Spring Awakening, Next To Normal, The Producers and The Addams Family, Phantom of the Opera, Evita and ’13: The Musical’. 2017’s highlights included Les Miserables, the international tour of West Side Story and Keyboard One for Sister Act in November at the new ASB Waterfront Theatre and 2018 will begin with Mamma Mia at the Bruce Mason Centre in March.
I have a wide variety of experiences in playing the piano and I bring this breadth of knowledge through into my lessons.
I currently offer piano lesson for any age up to the skill level required for a Grade 8 examination. Private lessons can be arranged at my home in the Kingsland area or I am open to discussing other alternatives. As for my teaching style, I am very patient and dedicated to see students succeed. As such I teach a technical/skills based approach as well as one of enjoyment and simply making music. This varies from student to student depending on their own goals, personalities, and what they require from me as their teacher.
I am keen to take students through the examination process, in fact I encourage it, and I am happy to discuss with you which examination board would be the most suitable to follow through with. In saying that, if the pressures of examinations are not your style that is totally fine, it is not a necessary route to follow in order to become an accomplished pianist. Alongside teaching the actual mechanics of piano playing I am also able teach the accompanying music theory that is a necessary part of becoming a complete musician.
